The independent standard for coffee roasting

Safe. Legal. Emissions‑accountable.

TVM verifies that a coffee roastery meets its national gas-safety law and a single international standard for safety and emissions — so the seal on the bag means the same thing in every country.

Why it matters

A recognizable mark of trust for coffee

What B Corp or Bird Friendly do for sustainability, TVM does for how coffee is roasted — a verifiable claim a roaster can put on the bag.

Prove compliance

Turn a legal obligation (Klasse 7 and annual safety duties) into something you can show — not a folder of paperwork.

Stand out on the shelf

A seal customers can scan and verify, telling them the coffee comes from a roastery that does things right.

Get ahead of regulation

Emissions rules are tightening across the EU. Put your CO₂ reporting and safety in order now, on your terms.

One standard, everywhere

Built on international standards on top of your national law — so the mark means the same thing in every market.

How the standard works

One seal, built in two layers

TVM never overrides national law — it sits on top of it. Each country's legal baseline pairs with a constant international layer, so a roastery in Copenhagen and one in Dubai prove the same thing.

01Prerequisite

National legal compliance

The roastery must already meet the gas & process-safety law of its own country. TVM requires it as an entry condition — it doesn't replace the authorities.

  • Denmark — Klasse 7 (BEK 247) & SIK, municipal chimney approval
  • Other markets — the applicable national regime
  • Verified by documentary evidence of approval
02Harmonized

The TVM requirements

A single common layer, built on standards that are already international — so the meaning of the seal is constant everywhere.

  • EN 746-2 — combustion & thermoprocessing safety
  • ISO 14001 — verified CO₂ emissions reporting
  • Risk assessment, annual audit, maintenance regime

National law + the TVM layer = a seal that travels across borders.

The path to certification

Five steps, one annual rhythm

You can prepare with any qualified provider. The audit is always conducted by an independent assessor — never the same party that did the work.

01

Pre-assessment

We map your current installation against the standard and identify any gaps to close.

02

Implementation

You close the gaps with the provider of your choice. (If they also prepare you, a different auditor is assigned at the next step.)

03

Independent audit

An accredited auditor verifies the installation on-site against the standard's checklist.

04

Certification

On a pass, you're listed in the public registry and granted the right to use the mark.

05

Annual surveillance

A yearly on-site check — matching the mandatory annual maintenance — keeps the seal and your safety current.

Public & verifiable

Verify a seal

Anyone — a buyer, a café, a consumer scanning a bag — can confirm a roastery's status here. A seal you can't verify is just a sticker.

Certified roasteriesLive registry

The registry lists only currently certified roasteries who have consented to appear. Certification of our founding cohort is underway.

Why you can trust it

A seal is only worth its independence

TVM is governed as a standard, not a sales tool. These rules separate a real certification from a logo someone bought.

Separate entity

The standard is owned and issued by TVM as its own body — structurally separate from any company that sells installation or maintenance services.

Open standard

The criteria, the process, the auditor list and the registry are public. Anyone can read exactly what the seal requires.

Accountable over time

Designed toward ISO/IEC 17065 — the international norm for certification bodies — with annual surveillance and independent auditing.

Built on open science

Emissions methodology references the open NORM ROAST standard — independent measurement, not a number we invent.

The wall: a provider may prepare a roastery or audit it — never both on the same client.
